Hip, Hooray, and Ballyhoo: Hollywood Lyricists
Le résumé fourni par la source
Abstract With the success of talkies, Hollywood studios purchased the Tin Pan Alley music publishing houses to collect the royalties of their new songs. This gave Hollywood a great deal of power over the music. Frequently, this meant that when a new movie was developed, they could just reach into their pockets and pull out an existing song for use. A few, however, would have new songs developed. A few of those movies include 42nd Street (“You’re Getting to Be a Habit with Me”), Gold Diggers of 1935 (“Lullaby of Broadway”), and Dames (“I Only Have Eyes for You”). This chapter explores those movies and those songwriters.
