Non-pharmacological management
Le résumé fourni par la source
Abstract This chapter discusses the non-pharmacological management of heart failure. Providing effective non-pharmacological advice is an important component of heart failure care. The consequences of failing to address this issue adequately can be both considerable and wide-ranging for patients and their caregivers, as well as incurring significant economic costs on the health care system generally. Heart failure patients need continuous, long-term support in the community and should ideally be seen as soon as possible following hospital discharge. A community-based healthcare professional can provide advice and support that complements the information given on hospital discharge. Moreover, a comprehensive assessment of both patients’ and caregivers’ needs and knowledge base is essential to inform future education and care requirements. As heart failure management continues to evolve, the requirement for effective and responsive strategies increases. Key areas for further research and development will include the use of digital technology in supporting healthcare professionals, patients, and their caregivers to implement self-care behaviours effectively.
