Autonomous Vertical Profiler deployment and its comparison with widely used Argo floats during monsoon in Bay of Bengal
Le résumé fourni par la source
Marine Instrumentation Division of CSIR-NIO has developed a patented technology-Autonomous Vertical Profiler (AVP) to record in near real-time the profiles of oceanographic parameters applicable for different environments such as rivers, dams, and coastal seas. The AVP is equipped with GPS, conductivity, temperature, depth (CTD), chlorophyll, and oxygen sensor. The radio frequency (RF) link is provided on AVP to program the missions and also to download the data after completion of the mission. The user can program the select depth for measurements, profiling speed and hovering time at specified depth for collection of water parameters. The AVP was deployed at two locations in northern Bay of Bengal (BOB) from ship in June 2017 during the monsoon season. ARGO floats from ARVOR were also deployed at different locations to collect data as a part of ARGO program. In this paper, we present a comparison of an indigenously developed thruster-driven AVP and a buoyancy engine-driven Argo float. The comparative temperature and salinity data from AVP and ARGO float show RMS difference of 0.62°C, and 0.40PSU, respectively for two profiles.
