By the end of 2002, Neurology will have received over 3,200 manuscripts from a total of 59 countries.Our reviewers made it possible for us to select the best and most interesting papers.Although Neurology accepts fewer than 25% of papers received, we send over 95% of papers for peer review.Nearly 100% of the accepted papers are rereviewed-often two or more times-providing constructive, detailed critiques that improve the science and the accessibility of papers, whether they are ultimately published in Neurology or elsewhere.By participating in this form of anonymous mentoring, our peer reviewers help create the literature of neurology.The Editors have the highest respect for and are grateful to all of our reviewers who anonymously devote themselves to this crucial endeavor.We especially admire those reviewers who review 5, 10, or 20 or more papers a year.The busiest and most productive leaders of neurology and clinical neuroscience are among our best and most generous reviewers.All our reviewers have the Editors' sincere thanks for working efficiently, providing reviews in an average time of less than 3 weeks for initial reviews and 2 weeks for re-review.A comprehensive web-based reviewing and manuscript submission system will launch late in 2002.This step is posing a challenge to the Editorial Office and will not be easy for many authors and reviewers.However, web-based peer review will soon become routine for Neurology as it is for other major journals.Online article submission and review will also make it easier for overseas authors and reviewers to work with us and will streamline our publication process.
