This chapter outlines the UK Health & Safety requirements in general and specifically in relation to the safety of industrial pressure systems. The chapter covers the following general areas: the organisational structure under the UK’s Health & Safety at Work Act an employer’s responsibilities under the act an employee’s responsibilities under the act. The chapter then continues with the specific requirements for the safety of industrial pressure systems. This is covered in regard to the current regulations, i.e. The Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000. Further guidance documentation provided by the UK Health & Safety Executive is also listed and an exercise is provided at the end of the chapter for the reader to undertake in order to gain familiarisation with aspects of the regulations and the associated Code of Practice.
