A Playground in a Child Friendly City: The Realization of Children’s Rights

The purpose of this study is to propose a direction for the creation of a playground in a child-friendly city in order to provide an environment where all children can realize children's rights and lead a happy life. To this end, through literature research analysis from July to September 2021, the elements, characteristics, and actual conditions of a child-friendly city are presented in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. By reviewing playground-related studies, the direction of playground creation in a child-friendly city was sought. First, it is necessary to create an adventure playground where children can take the lead and play with challenge and adventure. Second, it is necessary to build a barrier-free integrated playground where children with disabilities and non-disabled children can play together. Children with disabilities have the right to play in the playground, and there should be no restrictions on playground access and resource use. Third, it is necessary to be protected from harmful substances and to play safely, and to have an ecological playground using natural resources. Above all, playgrounds in a child-friendly city should be created in a form that allows all children to actively participate in the entire process of playground creation so that they can fully realize their rights and play more happily.
