Being a teenager is the period in our life when we stop being a child and start taking on the rights and responsibilities of an adult. A boy of fourteen can be convicted of rape and is thought adult enough to be responsible for any other crimes he might commit. But until sixteen he is still regarded as a schoolboy and he isn’t thought old enough to vote until eighteen. The mass media – newspapers, television, and the cinema – are all important in today’s world. But so far as teenagers are concerned, the most influential media are to do with pop and fashion. Teenagers don’t read many newspapers, and they watch less TV than any other age group.
