To determine the usefulness of uterine guided vaginal Radiofrequency ablation in the treatment of uterine fibroids in premenopausal women with heavy menstrual bleeding. Retrospective study of premenopausal women with heavy menstrual bleeding with submucosal or intramural cavity-distorting fibroids undergoing outpatient transvaginal ultrasound-guided Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of uterine fibroids in the last 2 years. 10 premenopausal women (mean age 43.45 years, SD:6.49; min: 31, max: 50) fulfilled criteria for treatment of uterine fibroids (type 2-4 FIGO) with transvaginal RFA under mild sedation. Mean procedure time of ablation was 6.17 min (SD: 2.56; min: 5 min; max: 11 min), time to discharge was 2 hours. No surgical complications were described. Time to return to work was 4 days. All women had heavy menstrual bleeding before treatment for at least 8 days that reduced to 2 days 3 months after treatment. Mean largest size of fibroids treated was 47.6 mm (SD:5.17) with a volume of 44.6 cm3 (SD: 12.6) that reduced in 35.68% (SD: 16.76) 6 months after treatment. No patient required additional reinterventions nor hospitalisation. Transvaginal ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of uterine fibroids can be a treatment option for premenopausal women with heavy menstrual bleeding reducing the size of the fibroids and controlling bleeding with no side effects.
