Congenital toxoplasmosis: case report

The risk of congenital toxoplasmosis in Guayaquil is 2.4 per ten thousand and there is annual birth of 147 children affected, 95 (65%) asymptomatic but with different effects on subsequent development, resulting in visually impaired children or children with motor or intellectual disorders, which could be prevented or lessened with timely treatment at birth and continuing assessment. However, the reality of congenital toxoplasmosis in Ecuador has not yet been established. Social and economic impact should be quantified through domestic research so that, among other things, an analysis of the feasibility of including the diagnosis of this disease in the screening program for metabolic disorders is introduced.
