Résumé fourni par la source

Pro-consumer legislation generated by post-war consumerism has substantially increased the potential liability of manufacturers for product defects, both in the United Kingdom and in the European Union. Accordingly, their need for insurance cover is greater. The growing volume of world trade makes adequate coverage especially crucial to exporters whose territories include countries with varying laws concerning liability for defective products. The general contractual limitation period is six years from breach of contract and the tortious limitation period is six years from when damage first occurred, apart from when the claim is for damages for personal injury or death where the period is then three years. Goods are products, including their component parts and the raw materials which comprise them. The term also includes packaging and accompanying warnings or instructions. Products are defined as any goods or electricity and includes products which are comprised in another product, whether by virtue of being a component part or raw material or otherwise.
