The Cretan Registry of the use of Biologics in Severe Asthma (CREBS) of the University Hospital of Heraklion,Greece

Introduction: Real-world data on the use and effectiveness of severe asthma biologics are useful as they confirm the findings of RCTs. The Cretan Registry of the use of Biologics in Severe Asthma (CREBS) is a multi-centre web-based post-marketing surveillance registry of biologics for the treatment of severe asthma. Methods: This are the preliminary results of our severe asthma registry regarding the use of biologics in the treatment of patients with severe asthma. Data of patients treated with Biologics in our Center between 2006 and 2019 were retrospectively collected and analysed. Results: In total, 78 patients initiated biologic treatment, of which 31 patients received mepolizumab, 35 patients received omalizumab and 12 patients switched from omalizumab to mepolizumab. The median duration of biologic therapy was 10 months. 48% of the patients were already on high dose inhaled corticosteroids and LABA and 52% were prescribed add on treatment with LAMA. Patients on mepolizumab had a more severe asthma phenotype receiving commonly maintenance oral corticosteroid treatment. 86% of patients had late onset asthma, 70% had comorbid allergic rhinitis and 31% nasal polyposis. Conclusion: These are the preliminary results of our retrospective study in a large group of severe asthma patients receiving biologic therapy. Severe asthmatics of our cohort were in high dose ICS or/and oral steroids while commonly presented with allergic rhinitis and nasal polyposis.
