Giant pericardial cyst as the cause of syncope

A 89-year-old man was referred to our department after 2 episodes of syncope. Chest radiography showed a widened mediastinum (A). Computed tomography scan and magnetic resonance images confirmed the presence of a giant pericardial cyst (B–D). Due to the size and location of the cyst and the patient's symptoms, surgery was scheduled. Using sternotomy, a giant pericardial cyst containing 1 liter of pericardial fluid was removed completely (E and F). A 89-year-old man was referred to our department after 2 episodes of syncope.
