Cross-reactivity between Platanus pollen and plant-derived foods is described in the literature, but cross-reactive allergen components were not accurately defined. We report a case of spring seasonal intermittent allergic rhinitis with sensitization to plane tree and multiple episodes of oral allergy syndrome after consumption of maize-derived products such as polenta and popcorn, and to lettuce, mentioning in addition professional exposure to chickpea (packaging process), suggesting the importance of combining the in vivo skin prick and prick-prick tests with pollen extracts and foods of plant origin with in vitro immunoassays with molecular components in order to assess this relatively rare allergy association between plane tree and fruit/vegetables.
