This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book is concerned with the management of natural resources, in particular with the management of the resource called fish and wildlife. It provides a very useful guide and a basis for thought and discussion for those particularly interested in the management of natural resources. The management of natural resources is a growing problem of governments at both federal and local levels. It is clear that the nation and the states must spend some time reflecting on their roles and improving their management capabilities. Future generations, is becoming crucial because we are coming to recognize that the management of natural resources which concentrates on living persons may very well leave out altogether the consideration of future generations. Problems arising from changing attitudes towards wildlife, risks in management or policy decisions, resource priorities, and environmental-impact assessments.
