Enroll-HD and Registry are both observational multinational studies of the European Huntington’s Disease Network focused on the follow up of motor, cognitive, psychiatric evaluation and measurement of functional capacity. The aim of the present study was to assess the discriminative validity of the German version of the cognitive Huntington´s disease (HD) battery for the evaluation of the cognitive performance in HD patients. 106 patients in various stages of HD and age, sex, and education matched 96 normal controls (NC) were evaluated by the standardized Enroll-HD protocol. The highest discriminative potential in NC versus HD was detected in Stroop Color Naming (AUC 83%) followed by Trail Making Test-A (AUC 82%), Stroop Word Reading (AUC 81%), Categorial Verbal Fluency (AUC 81%), Letter Verbal Fluency (AUC 79%), Trail Making Test-B (AUC 79%), Symbol Digit Modalities Test (AUC 78%), and Stroop Interference (AUC 76%) with the lowest discriminative potential. Furthermore to assess the discriminative validity of a cognitive HD battery we split the HD study group into two subgroups according to the Mini Mental Status Examination cut-off (<24) with less and more pronounced cognitive dysfunction. The performed validation confirms the results of previous studies on the assessment of cognitive decline in HD in the original English version (all p-values for each measure in the batrtery were <0.01) and showed that the cognitive HD battery is a suitable tool for assessing the cognitive dysfunction in HD patients.
