Pre-emptive kidney transplantation (PreTx) is considered the ideal treatment for End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD). PreTx minimises dialysis-associated morbidity and mortality as well as resulting in improved allograft survival. Rates of PreTx across transplanting units in New Zealand is now a quality improvement metric monitored by the New Zealand National Renal Transplant Service. This study aims to determine the rates of paediatric PreTx in New Zealand, identify barriers to PreTx and consider potential interventions/practice improvements to influence future rates of PreTx.
