The duration of scientific projects (average of 3 years) is a limitationto obtain the long time series that are essential to achieve a goodknowledge of oceanographic processes. Permanent marine stations,such as the Coastal Ocean Observatory (COO) of the ICM-CSIC, enableto record measurements of oceanographic parameters in thelong term. Since April 2002, a monthly oceanographic cruise hasbeen collecting temperature, salinity, turbidity, fluorescence, andpressure measurements at nine points along two perpendicularprofiles in front of Barcelona city. The specifications defined by theSensor Web Enablement (SWE) technology of the Open GeospatialConsortium (OGC) allow the standardization of the data acquiredby the sensors. Specifically, Sensor Observation Service (SOS) establishesthe description of the observations and the sensors. Twotechnologies have been evaluated allowing the implementationof a SOS system concluding that it is necessary to improve them tobe more user-friendly. The standardization of the data facilitates itsvisualization with very useful tools for a first analysis and oceanographicinterpretation. This standardization supposes a great effort thatis compensated by the interoperability that is achieved.
