Le résumé fourni par la source
A stakeholder group of Persons Living with Dementia (PLWD) was convened for the 2017 U.S. Research Summit on Dementia Care, including 12 retired professionals, each experiencing symptoms of a cognitive disorder. This group proposed recommendations and justification for new research on social health based on findings from several pre-summit focus group sessions. Their recommendations will be discussed by members of the group and include developing and testing strategies for: 1) improving how members of the healthcare team may participate in the social network of PLWD to address difficult mental and physical symptoms which may limit social functioning; 2) the completion of a person-centered care plan focusing on minimizing the progression of symptoms and maximizing strategies for “living well” while maintaining or improving quality of life; and, 3) addressing barriers to fulfilling potential and obligations, with specific focus on financial burdens, stigma, and words used to describe cognitive impairment.
