The Flora indicativa comprises ecological and biological traits of 5500 plant species an nearly 1000 aggregates of closely related species of Switzerland and surroundings as well as of the whole Alps. The characters of each species are put together in tabular form. The work is addressed to professional and amateur botanists willing to learn more about the species and their ecology and biology. The presented data will allow nature conservation agencies and environmental institutions to document the various plant species. In conclusion, by this quantification of plant life in Central Europe the Flora indicativa makes a significant contribution to the preservation of plant diversity. In addition, the book is a practical guide to plant ecology, i.e. the study of the relations between plants and their environment. The Flora indicativa is an inexhaustible source of Information for all botanists interested in both existing and brand new study results. The work is the product of a unique collaboration of 13 botanical experts of the leading Swiss institutions ETH Zürich (Institute of Integrative Biology, Stiftung Rubel), WSL Birmensdorf, and Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques of Geneva, and of the universities of Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne and Zurich. Die Flora indicativa umfasst in Tabellenform zusammengefasst die ökologischen und biologischen Eigenschaften von 5500 Pflanzenarten und nahezu 1000 Aggregaten nah verwandter Arten aus der Schweiz und dem Alpenraum. Das Werk richtet sich an Fach- und Liebhaberbotaniker, die nicht nur die einzelnen Pflanzenarten kennenlernen, sondern auch mehr über deren ökologische Bedürfnisse und biologische Eigenschaften erfahren möchten. Öffentlichen und privaten Natur- und Umweltschutzstellen dienen die vorliegenden Daten als Grundlage, um das ökologische Vorkommen der verschiedenen Pflanzenarten aufzuzeigen. Die Flora indicativa leistet hiermit einen bedeutenden Beitrag zur Erhaltung der Artenvielfalt. Zudem kann sie als Einführung in die Geobotanik, d.h. in die Lehre von den Beziehungen zwischen Pflanzen und ihrer Umwelt, genutzt werden. Die Flora indicativa ist eine unerschöpfliche Informationsquelle, die nicht nur bestehende Literatur, sondern auch neueste Untersuchungsergebnisse berücksichtigt. Sie entstand als einzigartiges Gemeinschaftswerk von 13 Botanikexperten und den führenden Schweizer Institutionen ETHZ (Institut für Integrative Biologie, Stiftung Rubel), WSL, Birmensdorf, und Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques de Geneve sowie den Universitäten Basel, Bern, Genf, Lausanne und Zürich.
