Effet médiateur des comportements prosociaux entre difficultés psychologiques et consommation de substances psychoactives chez des adolescents togolais
Le résumé fourni par la source
Teens with psychological difficulties or vulnerabilities have a higher risk of substance use such as cannabis or tobacco. Several studies suggest that prosocial behavior is a factor of resilience that protects teenagers with vulnerabilities or a difficult family situation. Many data have identified a link between antisocial behaviors and substance use, but the nature of this relationship and its underlying processes remain unexplained. The aim of this study is therefore to test empirically the hypothesis that prosocial behaviors are associated with a decrease of psychological difficulties and substance use and have a mediating effect between psychological difficulties and substance use in teens. 78 students from Togo, aged 12 to 18 years, were invited to complete questionnaires, assessing psychological difficulties, prosocial behavior, tobacco and cannabis use. We confirmed the hypotheses of associations and mediation sought since the analysis of the data showed that prosocial behaviors have a mediating effect between the psychological difficulties and the consumption of substances. The results suggest that promoting and strengthening prosocial behavior could be an interesting strategy to protect adolescents from psychoactive substance use and psychological difficulties.
