Le résumé fourni par la source
Hypersexuality has been characterized by extremely intense and frequent sexual urges or sexual activities that produce distress and/or impairment to the individual.1 It is often reported as a symptom of an exogenous substance or another medical/psychiatric condition.2,3 However, some have suggested that non-paraphilic hypersexuality can cluster with other symptoms, such as the use of sex in response to dysphoric mood, to represent a distinct psychopathological condition. Hypersexual disorder was most recently proposed for inclusion in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) and included several criteria, such as: an excessive amount of time spent engaged in sexual activity, the use of sex as a way to regulate negative affective states, volitional impairment, and continued engagement in the behavior despite adverse consequences. A field trial was completed showing the criteria to be reliable and valid4; however, additional investigations employing community samples that have not been pre-selected for hypersexuality or other forms of psychopathology are needed. Ultimately, the American Psychiatric Association decided to reject the proposal for hypersexual disorder in DSM-5 due to a lack of empirical evidence and potential consequences of pathologizing excessive sexual activity.
