Background: Brugada-type-ECG pattern (BTEP) is defined by a specific ST-segment elevation in leads V1-V3 without distinct clinical history/findings of Brugada Syndrome. The clinical significance of BTEP is not well established. Purpose: Our aim was to elucidate the frequency of BTEP and its impact on all-cause and cardiovascular (CV) mortality in a large cohort of Turkish adult population. Methods: We evaluated resting ECGs and clinical data obtained from the HAPPY (Heart Failure Prevalence and Predictors in Turkey) study involving randomly selected 4650 subjects ≥35 years from all regions of Turkey. After 60 months of follow-up, mortalities were detected by national registry search. After the exclusion of subjects with missing ECG or data, established coronary disease, anti-arrhythmic use, bundle-branch-blocks, pre-excitations, atrial fibrillation and ventricular hypertrophies; 2270 subjects ([mean±SD] age, 51.5±12, [range]35–100 years) were enrolled in the study (female n [%overall]:1275 [56.2%]). All ECGs were interpreted manually by two experienced cardiologists for BTEP (according to the EHRA/HRS 2005 consensus report).
