Fungus Mortierella isabellina is a potential candidate for lipid production from lignocellulosic hydrolysates. Numerous by-products, which significantly reduce cellulase activity, microbial growth and product accumulation, are formed during lignocellulosic biomass pretreatment. The effect of individual aliphatic acids on growth and lipid accumulation during the submerged cultivation of fungus using glucose as a carbon source was studied. The results showed that the inhibitory effect of formic acid was stronger compared to levulinic acid. Significant drop in both biomass and lipid concentration was observed at levulinic acid concentrations above 1,111 g L-1. It was found that formic acid at lower concentrations promotes biomass growth and lipid biosynthesis. There was no growth of fungus M. isabellina detected at the concentrations of levulinic and formic acid above 5,55 g L-1 and 0,4 g L-1, respectively.
