Tidal Flooding Study for a Seattle Watershed

The paper reports on a study to develop a correlation between rainfall volumes and tidal storm surges based on recorded rainfall and tide data. This correlation was used to establish tidal storm surges to be added to a typical design tide extracted from NOAA tide tables for the area. The probabilities of exceedance of the relevant rainfall, tide, tidal surge and river stage events were analyzed and combined. The resultant estimates of joint probability, the tidal storm surges and the typical design tide were used in mainframe and micro-computer models to establish design parameters.
