Minerals and Energy Outlook: Australian Exports to Be a Record $81 Billion in 2005-06
Le résumé fourni par la source
Growth in world consumption for most of the major minerals and energy commodities is forecast to decline in 2005, in line with weaker growth in global industrial activity. US dollar prices for most minerals and energy products traded on a spot basis are expected to decline in 2005 because of an increase in world stocks, but prices for commodities traded on annual contracts (such coal and iron ore) are forecast to increase significantly. The value of Australian exports of minerals and energy commodities is forecast to rise by 20 per cent to a record $81 billion in 2005-06, driven by significant gains in volumes and prices for metallurgical and thermal coal and iron ore. However, as increases in world supply are expected to lead to sharp declines in real contract prices for these bulk commodities beyond 2005-06, the real value of total Australian exports of minerals and energy commodities is forecast to decline, despite the support received from higher export volumes and an assumed weakening of the Australian dollar.
