Mots cles: Plasmodium falciparum, nematodes, C. albicans , anemie, immunomodulation English Title: Effects of nematodes or C. albican coinfection with P. falciparum on anemia in Togo: a hypothesis of beneficial immunomodulation English Abstract Malaria continues to be a major cause of death and parasitic anaemia in children within Sub-Saharan Africa. Endemic areas often overlap for malaria and helminthiasis . Plasmodium falciparum infection will then be accompanied by nematode infections. Because anaemia complications with malaria lead to severe consequences in children with malaria, we addressed the question of the influence or the effects of the coinfections on anaemia. Using automated blood analysis, stool screening for nematodes and blood and stool culture for C. albicans , we found that the coinfection nematode and P. falciparum is an alleviating factor for both malaria and anaemia. Inversely, our results indicate that a coinfection of C. albicans and P. falciparum may represent an aggravating factor.
