High precision measurements of 26Na β- decay
Le résumé fourni par la source
High precision measurements of the half-life and, [beta]-branching ratios from the [beta]-decay of 26Na to 26Mg have been performed with the intention of establishing the half-life to better than ±0.05%. The half-life was measured from the [beta] activity with a 4[pi] proportional counter and fast tape transport system while the [beta]-branching ratios were determined from the [gamma] activity using the 8[pi] [gamma]-ray spectrometer, both located at the ISAC facility at TRIUMF. In order to determine the half-life to the required precision, careful scrutiny of all possible sources of systematic uncertainty was essential. A general computer program was created from first principles to fit dead-time affected, Poisson distributed data, valid for all numbers of counts per bin. In addition to the half-life, the [beta]-branching ratios and 'ft' values for this decay are presented.
