Le résumé fourni par la source

Given the changing epidemiologie pat¬ tern and the current relative predomi¬ nance of adult cases, we reviewed cases of adult epiglottitis that occurred from 1986 through 1991. We studied clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and outcome variables and endeavored to identify fac¬ tors associated with airway interven¬ tion. Data were obtained from patient records using standard forms and included clini¬ cal, diagnostic, therapeutic, and outcome variables. To identify factors associated with the decision to provide an artificial airway, patients were divided into two groups: those who received airway intervention and those who recovered fully without airway intervention. We performed uni- variate comparisons of proportions in the two groups using 2 tests. For analy¬ sis of continuous variables, the two-tailed Student t test was used. For variables significantly associated with airway in¬ tervention on univariate analysis, logis¬ tic regression analysis was performed to control for potential confounding among these patient characteristics. From this model, we calculated odds ratio (OR) estimates and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for relative risks (RRs).
