Expression of DNA repair enzyme HOGG1 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and its clinical significance

Objective The relationship between expression of HOGG1 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC) tissues and its 8-oxoG oxidative damage was investigated.Methods The expression of HOGG1 protein and the 8-oxoG oxidative damage between ESCC tissues and the adjacent tissues were compared by immunohistochemistry and Western blot.TUNEL kit was used to detect the apoptosis index(AI) of these tissues.Results There was different HOGG1 expression in ECSS tissues and the adjacent tissues,and the differences of HOGG1 expression among ECSS patients.Decreased HOGG1 expression and increased 8-oxoG oxidative damage of ESCC tissues were found.Decreased HOGG1 expression of ESCC tissues was associated negatively with their 8-oxoG oxidative damage and AI,and associated with carcinoma vein encroachment and lymph node metastasis,but not associated with patients' gender,age,pathological differentiation grade.Conclusion Postoperative routine detection of HOGG1expression with the patients' ESCC tissues may support making chemotherapeutic schedule.
