Etiology of Conjunctivochalasis

Objective:To analyze the clinical features of conjunctivochalasis.Methods:From 2004 to 2007,the clinical data of 98 eyes of 48 cases were collected.The clinical manifestations,examinational results,age,sex and related external ophthalmopathy were analyzed.Results:The main symptoms of conjunctivochalasis was foreign body sensation,dry,tears,Schirmer Ⅰ test less than 10 mm/5mins,and tear membrane breast-up time less than 10 seconds.The average age was 65 years old.The ratio of male to female was 26:23.The related external ophthalmopathy had eyelid pouch,obstruction in lacrimal passage,entropion or trichiases and blepharitis.Conclusion:Conjunctivochalasis is common with similar symptoms as other external ophthalmopathy,their relationship is cause and effect.The Schirmer Ⅰ test and tear membrane breast-up time should be considered.
