Error compensation of digital compass is the key issues for accuracy improvement of the magnetic navigation.By analysing the error mechanism,a novel method has been proposed for correcting the errors through the Genetic Algorithm.The compensatory parameters are obtained from the progress of crossing,mutating and choosing in the Genetic Algorithm.The Genetic Algorithm can solve the local optimum problems and achieve the global optimum solution The experimental results show that the Genetic Algorithm is effective for the environmental magnetic field error correction.After compensation,the digital compass can provide precise direction information for magnetic navigation with the average error reduced from 10.81° to 0.53°.
