Impacts of Land Use Changes on Groundwater Resources in Arid Area —— Case study of Middle Reaches of Heihe River

More and more important concerns are attached to the environmental effects of land use/cover changes and the hydrological effect has been one of key studies.With the developing of society and economics,more and more problems of the impacts of land use changes on groundwater resources are concerned about.Groundwater is an important part of water resources in northwest dry region,it is one of key factors to oasis land use.The data from carrying out on-the-spot investigations and retrieving the historical documents is occupied,and correlation analysis and quantitative methods are adopted to analyze the driving mechanism of land use changes on the recycling ways and variation of quantity and quality of groundwater resources in the middle reaches of Heihe River.Here we draw the following conclusions: the LUC have changed the natural recycling ways of groundwater;the rapid descending of groundwater has a significant impact to the desert vegetations and it is the main declination causes to natural desert vegetations,the groundwater level is dropped 3-5 meters compared to 1950’s in most middle reaches areas;industrial pollutions,agricultural insecticides and superfluous fertilizers are the main pollution sources to groundwater.Because of the slow hydrological recycling and the weak self-purification capacity of groundwater,it is significant premises to protect the groundwater recourses while utilizing the water recourses in arid area.Realizing the impact of land use changes on groundwater system and the characteristics of variations of regional groundwater resources may make the programming and management of water and land resources more scientific and reasonable.
