Determination of Content of Cellulose and Hemicellulose in Stem of Sesamum indicum L

Objective: To determine the contents of cellulose and hemicellulose in the stem of Sesamum indicum L.Methods: Potassium dichromate oxidation titration,alkali extraction method and differential weight method.Results: The contents of cellulose and hemicellulose in stems of Sesamum indicum L.were about 37% and 50%,respectively.Conclusion: There are abundant lignocellulose in stems of Sesamum indicum L.,in which content of cellulose are equivalent to that of stems of maize,wheat and rice,while its content of hemicellulose is higher.Stems of Sesamum indicum L.can be used widely.
