Traumatic rupture of the bladder: a report of 35 cases

Objective To explore the diagnosis and treatment of bladder rupture. Methods The management of bladder rupture in 35 patients from January 1986 to June 1999 were analyzed. Results All cases had been surgically treated, in whom 34 were cured and recovered normal micturition after operation. One of the patients suffering from vesicorectal penetrating wound with rupture of the posterior urethra had cystostomy and colostomy reserved in all his life. Conclusions Bladder irrigation and retrograde cystography are simple and credible means for the diagnosis of bladder rupture. Surgical intervention is a primary option of therapeutic schems.
