Improvement in Neutralization and Hydrolysisin Synthesizing 1,2-Pentanediol

An improved process synthesizing 1,2-pentanediol and calcium formate has been developed using 1,2-epoxypentane in formic solution and calcium hydroxide as starting materials via neutralization, hydrolysis, filtration and drying, concentrating, extraction, filtration and drying again and then concentrating and rectification, final product with high purity and high yield is obtained. The total yield of 1,2-pentanediol is 92.8% with purity of 99.5%, the yield of calcium formate is 95%, purity 98%. This process exhibits advantages of mild reaction conditions, and is easy to operation, so it is suitable for industrial production.
