The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Tsugiashi and Ayumiashi on the rotating type of judo throwing techniques. Three throwing techiques that were Ogoshi, Uchimata, and Osotogari were applied for the examination. Participants were fourteen national intercollegiate students of judo and they carried out the trials of each throwing techniques by three kinds of Tsukuri conditions, that were Tsugiashi, Ayumiashi of one step, and Ayumiashi of two steps. The throwing trials were performed three times in each of the conditions. Movement time was measured about Tsukuri and Kake phases. One-way ANOVA was conducted on the three conditions of the movement time about Tsukuri and Kake phases and demonstrated significant differences between the conditions. In Tsukuri phase, the movement time of Tsugiashi was significantly shorter than the movement time of Ayumiashi of two steps. As for the movement time of Kake phase, it was significantly shorter when Tsugiashi was used in Tsukuri phase than when Ayumiashi was used in Tsukuri phase. Findings indicate that Tsugiashi is effective in making quick movement in Tsukuri phase, and in applying Tsukuri movement to Kake movement, and that the acquisition of Tsugiashi skill as well as Ayumiashi skill is important to improve judo throwing skills.
