Correlated inclusive ΛΛ¯ production in e+e− annihilations at s∼10.5GeV
Le résumé fourni par la source
Using a $13.7{\mathrm{fb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ sample of continuum two-jet ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}q\overline{q}$ events collected with the CLEO detector, we have searched for correlations between \ensuremath{\Lambda} and $\overline{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$ particles, specifically in cases where the opening angle between the two particles is large and each has momentum $>1\mathrm{GeV}/c.$ Such correlations may indicate the presence of baryon number conservation at the primary quark level. A previous CLEO study of ${\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{c}{\overline{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{c}$ correlations indicated direct, associated production of primary charmed baryons ${\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{c}:$ ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}c\overline{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{c}{\overline{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{c}.$ That effect was not observed in Monte Carlo simulations. Our current search for similar direct, associated production of \ensuremath{\Lambda} baryons at the primary quark level ${(e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}s\overline{s}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\Lambda}\overline{\ensuremath{\Lambda}},$ e.g.) qualitatively indicates a similar effect, although it relies on a Monte Carlo dependent subtraction of background $\ensuremath{\Lambda}\overline{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$ production (based on the default JETSET 7.4 event generator).
