Community analysis of plant parasitic nematodes associated with agricultural crops in Junagadh district of Gujarat and Diu-union territory

An extensive survey in Junagadh district of Gujarat and Diu an union territory, was conducted to ascertain status of plant-parasitic nematodes associated with onion, garlic, wheat, brinjal, castor, cotton, coconut and flowering plants. Five plant parasitic nematodes viz., Rotylenchulus reniformis, Helicotylenchus spp., Tylenchorhynchus spp., Meloidogyne spp., and Pratylenchus spp. were isolated and identified from soil and root samples collected from rhizosphere of host crops. Out of these, the highest frequency of occurrence was recorded in Helicotylenchus spp. (40.9) followed by Tylenchorhynchus spp. (36.3) in Junagadh district. While in Diu, the highest frequency (70.0) recorded was of Meloidogyne spp. followed by Pratylenchus spp.
