LA RETENTION AIGUE D’URINE : ANALYSE DE 499 CAS AU SERVICE D’UROLOGIE DU CHU DE CONAKRY.

Objective: Identify the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects of acute urinary retention admitted to the urology department of the Conakry teaching hospital. Material and method: This retrospective study, carried out over a period of 3 years (January 2005-December 2007), included 499 acute urinary retention admitted to the urology department of the Conakry teaching hospital, Guinea. [Results: Acute urinary retention in our study represented 69.80% (n = 499) of urological emergencies. The mean age of patients was 60.6 years, with extremes of 2 months and 95 years. The sex ratio was 26.72. The main causes of urinary retention were prostate tumors (68.53%) and urethral stricture (20.64%). Urethral catheter was the method of bladder drainage most used in emergencies. Conclusion: Acute urinary retention is the most common urological emergencies. Prostate tumors are the main etiology. Its management is based on bladder drainage.
