Le résumé fourni par la source

This paper describes the fabrication and testing of al-alloy/kaolinite/C hybrid mmcs cast in sand moulds containing copper metallic chills of different thickness. Ingots were cast under vortex route method. The size of the kaolinite/graphitic carbon particles is between 50 and100 µm. The kaolinite contents are 3, 6, 9, and 12% by weight while graphitic carbon is kept fixed at 2.5% by weight. Nickel coating on graphitic carbon particles through electroless process was given. This improves wettebility and other mechanical characteristics. Results of the investigation reveal that there is a good bonding with consistency between the matrix and the dispersoids. As the dispersoid content (kaolinite) is increased the strength and fracture toughness increase remarkably and is highly dependent on the location of the casting from where the test specimens are taken. Nickel coated graphite particles provide solid lubrication, enhanced strength, hardness, and machinability to the composites/matrix alloy. Microstructure and SEM photographs of fractured surfaces were taken for analysis.
