Las Orientaciones Religiosas Extrínseca e Intrínseca: Validación de la “Age Universal” I-E Scale en el Contexto Argentino

Since the pioneering work of Allport and Ross (1967) religious orientations began to be studied empirically. Initially 2 orientations were observed: extrinsic and intrinsic. However, confirmatory factor analysis later revealed that the extrinsic orientation consisted of 2 dimensions: social extrinsic and personal extrinsic (Gorsuch & McPherson, 1989; Kirkpatrick, 1989; Maltby, 2002). In order to explore the dimensionality of religious orientations, a validation of the “Age Universal” I-E Scale (Maltby, 2002) was conducted in the Argentinian context. Respondents were 288 college students of both sexes at a Buenos Aires university, purposively selected. The selection criterion was to consider themselves religious. The present findings, obtained through exploratory and confirmatory factorial analyses, provide empirical support to the three-dimensional model and contribute to the adaptation and validation of the “Age Universal” I-E-12 scale for the Argentinian context.
