Uncommon functional ‘bicuspid’ aortic valve associated with an aortic root aneurysm

A 46-year-old man presented with a functional bicuspid aortic valve, discovered during a Bentall procedure for an aortic root aneurysm (Fig. 1 ) and aortic regurgitation. The right and the left coronary leaflets were fused with a part of the non-coronary leaflet, presenting itself as an inter-commissural rupture creating the ‘aortic orifice’ (Fig. 2 ). CTscan of the 58 mm aortic root aneurysm associated to a non-dilated ascending aorta. No aortic leaflet is visualised.
