Aetiological Factors in Mental Retardation: A Survey of 212 Cases
Le résumé fourni par la source
SummaryAn investigation was made into the basic cause of the mental handicap in 212 children and adults. The degree of mental handicap was, for the most part, within the moderate range and of the group 114 were recognised examples of Down's syndrome. Among the other 98 an aetiological diagnosis could be made in 33 cases and in another 11 their handicap was either of genetic origin or had arisen early in pregnancy. In the remaining 54 no cause for their handicap could be determined though 4 were of low birth weight, 5 had cerebral palsy, 2 were psychotic and of the remainder 16 had epilepsy.
