Fractal nature of atmospherically degraded wavefronts: an aid to prediction

Le résumé fourni par la source
We identify stellar wave fronts that passed through turbulence as fractals from the Fractional Brownian motion family. Fractal behavior manifests itself both in space and in time. We propose predicting wave fronts, based on earlier measurements at each pixel and at neighboring pixels. If the wind direction is known, mainly upward measurements are needed. The accuracy of the method is improved if atmospheric layers can be measured separately.© (1994) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
