Profil du malade urologique : etude de 491 patients hospitalises au service d'urologie, CHU de Conakry

Objective: The objective of this study was to describe the main determinants of urological profile of the patients hospitalized in the department of urology of Conakry. Patients and methods: This study was a retrospective, observational and descriptive about 491 patients hospitalized from January to December 2004. Results: The median age was 66 years, 13 % were over 80 years. Farmers with 43.6% were dominant among occupational categories. The literacy rate was 23.4%. On matrimonial status, 81.9 % of the patients were married. They came from all regions of the country: Middle Guinea led (31.8%), followed by the Lower Guinea (22.8%) and Conakry (25.3%). The main reasons for consultations were voiding disorders (83.9%). Common medical history was urethritis (42.2%). Cola (35.6 %) and tobacco (8%) were the major defects found. Benign prostatic hypertrophy (55%), urethral stricture (17.3%) and prostate cancer (8.8 %) were the main diseases identified. Despite the difficulties and delays care of some urological diseases, the hospital mortality rate was low (1%). Conclusion: This study showed a high incidence of prostate tumors and urethral stricture in urology. These pathologies affect elderly patients, growers and coming from inside the country. This first study could serve as a basis for discussion for the organization better accessibility urological care.
