Erhard Meister came to Saarbrücken from the German Research Establishment of Aeronautics at Mühlheim/Ruhr in April 1958 to work as an assistant of Heinz Söhngen, who had accepted a chair of mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science of the University of Saarland.
